David Hockney is a famous english artist, painter, stage designer, print maker and photographer. Hockney was an essential component to the pop art movement of the 1960s. Though pop art was the main style that Hockney was known for he also enjoyed creating works in the style of modern art and cubism.

Once gaining popularity he began creating videos and honed his skills as a cinematographer. He is best known for his landscape photographs that have a lot of contrast and color.

Week 10 – Artist – Joseph DeLappe & Micol Hebron

1. Joseph DeLappe’s work is often sculptures of abstract shapes or geometrical figures

2. Micol Hebron’s work is recognized as interdisciplinary and used many different practices such as curating, writing, social media, crowdsourcing, and studio work.

3. I see many different medias expressed throughout both DeLappe and Hebron

4. I think they either chose the media that is most convenient or the media that will portray the message the best

5. one media that i saw Joseph DeLappe use was cardboard which i never though it could be used artistically.

6. I see many similarities and many differences in DeLappe and Hebron’s work. I believe that their ideas and message they are trying to convey are similarly but their medias are different

7. I cannot think of a media that i have not seen DeLappe and Hebron use

Week 8 – Art Activity – Photo Story

This photo is of my dog Que laying on the clinch with his frisbee. The reason why he looks so tired is because he played frisbee for an hour straight right before this picture was taken.
This is Que after he finished playing frisbee. After this he drank his entire water bowl and fell asleep for hours.
This is a close up of Que trying to fall asleep but his ear keeps itching. He scratching his ear because of his ear infection
This is que trying on his new shades. This is how he prepares for a walk.
this is Que asking for attention. He loves to put his paw on you if you let him, that’s his form of affection
This is que relaxing his head on a pillow. He was waiting for my mom to get home right next to the door in this photo.
Another picture of my dog Que but now he is laying on my dads bed. My dad has to leave on business trips a couple times a month and when that happens Que jumps on his beg and cuddles my dads pillow.
Finally a picture of que missing my mom. The blankets and sheets he is laying on are the same sheets my mother uses and whenever she’s not around he lays on them.

Week 8 – Artit’s OTW – Addario-Cardiff-Miller

Lynsey Addario is an American photographer and journalist. Many of her works are inspired by issues of conflict and human rights. She has been known to cover the humanitarian crisis’ in the Middle East and Africa.

Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller are American artists. They are most notable known for their audio walks. They created a new style of art that immersed more than just the visual sense. Many of their greatest pieces are sound art and installation art.

A few ways in which Addario and Cardiff-Miller art is similar is that both artists want to provide the viewer with something they can take away from the piece.

There are many ways in which Addario and Cardiff-Miller differ when it comes to their art work. Addario is a photographer and photographs issues of conflict to bring awareness to the view where as Cardiff and Miller create art installments and are more popularly known for their sound art.

I Bielefeld that it is important to show the gritty edge of the real world as we all know the world is not perfect. However, I would not say it is more or less important than “whimsy and inner-dialogue.” I do think that the whimsical mind does satisfy some deep human desires and is not just for entertainment.

I would prefer a career like Cardiff-Miller. I am really able to connect with their works as I am a musician and I believe music is one of the greatest ways to get a point across to the listener

Week 7 – Artist – Annie Leibovitz & Nan Goldin

1.) Annie Leibovitz is an famous American photographer that is best know for her dramatic and engaging portraits. She was also knows for working with many celebrities. Another possible reason for her popularity could be contributed to the fact that she took the last photographs of John Lennon and Yoko Ono before their deaths. She was also the first women to have an art exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery of Washington.

2.) Nan Goldin is a contemporary American photography. She became popular in the 80s and this was due to her unique style. Her style was often described as intimate, gritty, chaotic at times and filled with symbolism of love. She was also a photography that had a main focus on showing and exposing the public to the LGBTQ community.

3.)

This is a portrait of one of my personal favorite artists, Kendrick Lamar. I really enjoy this piece because it has a Graphic Design aspect as there are two portraits in one, with if the the portraits being very well blending into the main image which gives off a very interesting and unique style. I feel a connection to this image because of the the inspiration the artists being photographed has given me, as a musician I am always looking to new people to inspire my own creative vision and Kendrick Lamar has been one of those inspirations for me and many others for a very long time.

4.)

This photo taken by Nan Goldin is titled “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency.” I believe this is my favorite painting by Goldin because of the grittiness and realness of the photo. I really enjoy how the photo looks candid and not set up or prepared before hand, i enjoy the natural look. I think this image also shows how sex life was in the 80s and 90s. I feel a connection to Goldin as an artists because she is unwavering and willing to say what she want and will fight for what is right.

5.) I believe that Nan Goldin’s works are far more realistic and true to the real world then Annie Leibovitz’ works. I think it matter but only depending on the viewer of the photo, some viewers prefer a more clean cut image while there are those that enjoy the realism of candid photos.

6.) For my own portraits, I would personally like Nan Goldin more. This is because I have always been in love with photography that doesn’t not looked stage but feather photos that looked like the photographer took it at just the right moment.

Week 5 – Artist OTW – David Choe & Keith Haring

The first artist of the week I will be reviewing will be an artist by the name of David Choe. David Choe is a contemporary American street Artist who was born, raised and works out of Los Angeles. Choe is known for his street art and illustrations. His style is unique when compared to other street artists as it mixes the style of street art and fine art. His work is often described as cartoonish and frenetic graffiti style.

The second artist of the week will be reviewing Keith Haring. Keith Haring is another contemporary American Artist from Pennsylvania. Skating has a signature style which is made up of different shapes, with bright and vibrant colors with black outlines for greater contrast. His art takes much inspiration from the pop art movement of the 1950s and 60s. This is another artist who specialized in fine arts however learned how to paint when he started young creating street art.

These two artists’ styles are very similar even though they both have their own genre and style of art. Both artists like to take inspiration from both street and fine arts. where these two artists differ is in the color and detail of their work. Haring’s style is more vibrant and less detailed as it gives more of a cartoonish pop art style, whereas Choe’s art style is more detailed with greater contrast.

The strengths of gallery art is that the artwork can be presented in a clean and nice manner that is very visually appealing to the viewer, however the weakness with gallery art is how they can only be found in galleries and museums which maybe expensive for some.

The strengths of street art is that it is open to the public eye and is very easy to come by, this means more people will be exposed to the world of art, however the weakness of street art lies within the perception of the viewer. some viewers may consider street art to be trashy or not as nice as fine arts.

Personally if i was to become an artist, I would love to create street art. I have many friends who are aspiring artists and many of them do both street and fine arts, however i have a greater connection to street art when compared to the fine arts.
